The Light Between Oceans

I just finished reading The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman and I thought it was pretty good. It was one of those that once I got started reading I didn't want to put it down, but when I stopped I didn't rush to get back to it. Make sense? Probably not, but I still thought it was a good read.
I found this book looking through some of the Blogs I follow and their recommendations (Everyday Reading has been a GREAT source of books for me and the girls). After I posted a picture on Instagram a bunch of my friends had either read it already in their book club or were interested too.
I'm no good at explaining things without basically giving away the whole book. So here is the description per Amazon:
"After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them."

At times I didn't understand why it went back so far into the lives of some people, but in the end it all makes sense. I don't think you could have fully understood the emotional side of the situation without knowing all the characters pasts. As a mother it tore my heart in different directions. I'd love to elaborate but again, I don't want to give the book away. Grab your copy at amazon, ibooks, or go to the library (that's where I went).
I hope you all enjoy the book and let me know if you liked it, hated it, and how you felt about the whole situation. Can't wait to hear from you!

XO,
  Nikki
